Be Happy With Less Stuff

Would You Actually Be Happier With Less Stuff?

Every time I turn on the TV or start surfing the web, I see dozens of ads for stuff that is supposed to make me happy. A new car, better TV, or designer fashions get advertised as the key to being cool, and of course, smiling more. But what we find, when we succumb to that commercial chatter, is that after getting the next new thing, and have gotten past the initial “new car smell”, we just tend to feel unsatisfied again. Then it takes another new thing to boost our moods again!

Have you seen the documentary, Happy? The ventured across 14 countries on 5 continents to try to find the keys to happiness. What they found is that money, fame, or stuff really did not do IT for people. Strong personal relationships and health were far more important keys to being happy.

Do You Work Too Much?

Do you complain because you work too much? Maybe it is because you need too much, and maybe you have trained your family to be the same. Instead of working towards acquiring more things, maybe it is time to clean out some of the clutter and figure out what you really need.

Is It Time To Spring Clean?

In fact, many experts tell us that a Spring (or Fall, Winter, and Summer) cleaning can remove clutter, help us find things we already have, and help us feel more centered. You may spend less money on replacing things you already own that you cannot find! You may even be able to raise some cash by selling unwanted items at a garage sale or on EBay.

Pull In The Neighborhood!

A community garage sale is a great way to benefit your whole street, remove some clutter, and connect with your neighbors. Make a party out of it. I know that sometimes I get so caught up in my own work and family issues that I neglect relationships with the people across the street or right next door.
